Interesting things I saw this week - 21
This month I revisited my favourite anime: GaoGaiGar. No matter how I try to describe how much I like this anime I don’t think I can make it justice. On a first glance it is your standard monster of the week mecha anime with a bland plot and over the top fights, but as the show progresses the personalities of the characters begin to shine, they are some of the most likable characters in any anime I have seen.
If you are not afraid to cry A LOT during quite a few episodes when the battles become too intense, and during the whole GaoGaiGar FINAL ovas, which are intense from start to finish; you should check it out, it is hands down my favourite anime.
[video] The Intimacy of Everyday Objects
A video essay about how common objects from everyday life, as portrayed through art, make us feel.
It starts mentioning the addition of liquid shaders to Half Life Alyx (pretty cool btw, I didn’t expect to see liquids moving inside bottles in videogames), continues with an analysis of how important are common objects in that game and then elaborates on the depiction of regular objects in art.
The first 10 minutes feel like the whole video is about Half Life Alyx, but it becomes more interesting and entertaining after that.
[video] Want Social Justice? The Free Software Movement Fights For Everyone!
An explanation of what is libre software, the free software movement and why it is important.
I already knew everything DT said in this video, but also find it extremely important to share it so that other people can be aware of it. The idea is not that everybody should stop using proprietary software right away just because it is bad, but that everybody should be aware of what the software they are using represents.
As with most things in life you shouldn’t accept them as they come without thinking about twice about them, otherwise you are not living truly your life but the life that other people have chosen for you.
[music] Takai Osamu - 美しき光の翼 (Utsukushiki Hikari no Tsubasa) “Beautiful Wings of Light”

My favourite song from the GaoGaiGar OST. I don’t usually listen to original soundtracks, as you have probably guessed if you have read anything else I have written here, I just listen to vaporwave.
This is a nice change from the usual, an opera-like mood, an epic journey through the skies. Even if you don’t like the sound of Japanese or more orchestral songs I think you could enjoy this.
